Trailer And Equipment Painting Overview

Maintaining your equipment with new coats of paint can save you thousands of dollars compared to the cost of replacing damaged equipment. At VanDerKolk Painting, we can tackle your equipment and trailer painting projects to keep your equipment looking great and working properly. Our equipment painting services are highly detailed and individualized to your needs. Services include sand and specialty blasting to remove old paint and provide a surface profile for the paint to stick to, special epoxy primers, and paints that actually retard stone chipping and fragmentation. We’ll help you keep your equipment in excellent condition so it lasts for years to come.

The Benefits Of Having Trailers And Industrial Equipment Painted

Besides making your warehouse or factory look clean, sharp, and professional, keeping the paint on your industrial equipment fresh has several benefits. The number one benefit of maintaining the paint on industrial equipment is that it protects equipment and machinery from corrosion. This is especially true for equipment that gets exposed to chemicals, water, or the elements regularly. A blemish-free paint job seals the surface of the equipment to help it last longer and function properly. Additionally, by keeping your equipment in good working order, you improve safety for anyone who may handle the equipment.

Specialized paints and coatings can serve additional purposes on your industrial equipment. Some paints and coatings now include fireproofing agents to protect equipment from high temperatures for a short period of time. Special reflective coatings deflect heat away from equipment and walls to improve energy efficiency.

The benefits of painting trailers are similar to the benefits of painting industrial equipment. Trailers that are constantly outside and exposed to the elements need to have a protective paint job to prevent corrosion and rust. This keeps your trailer looking professional and allows it to last for years to come.

Industrial Equipment Painting Process

We try to keep our process for industrial equipment painting simple, quick, and easy for you. The main parts of the process are site preparation, cleaning and preparing the equipment surface, priming, and painting.

Site Preparation

Site preparation is dependent on the type of equipment you need to be painted. Trailers and other mobile equipment can be painted at our warehouse. If your industrial equipment is bolted down or is too large to economically transport, then we’ll paint on your premises. When we enter your space, we’ll cover and tape off the surrounding area and any parts of the equipment that need to be kept paint-free, as well as ensure there’s adequate ventilation for the project.

Surface Preparation

Surface preparation involves fully cleaning the surface of the equipment. This can include removing dust and debris, grease, and old loose paint. The process of cleaning a piece of equipment depends on the material being cleaned. Special detergents or solvents may be used to remove dirt and grime. For surfaces with old paint, rust, or corrosion, we provide sand blasting services and even specialty blasting services (including dry ice blasting and wet sand blasting) to create a clean, smooth surface.

Priming

Primers help paint fully adhere to surfaces, enhance its durability, and increase its longevity. Choosing to start with a primer and the type of primer used depends on the material being painted and the quality of the finish required. Primers may require varying lengths of time to dry and set before painting for the best results.

Painting

There are a variety of paint application techniques that can be used on industrial equipment. These may include specialized brushes or rollers, air spraying, dip coating, and more. The application process used will depend on the equipment type, paint type, and other variables. After paint, additional specialized coatings may be applied to give your equipment extra protection.

  • How Long Will The Downtime Be For My Equipment?

While we try to minimize disruptions in your workflow as much as possible, it is necessary for equipment to be decommissioned for a period of time during equipment painting. The length of time a piece of equipment may have to go down is dependent on the size and intricacy of the equipment, as well as the amount of prep work needed. Our team can work weekends, holidays, or weeknights to minimize disruption. After a project is completed, allow at least two to three more days for the paint to set.
