How Industrial Paint Jobs Differ From Residential Paint Jobs

Industrial painting is vastly different from residential painting. At VanDerKolk Painting, we have two completely separate teams for residential and industrial painting jobs. It’s important to work with a painting company that has substantial experience performing industrial painting jobs with past work history to show for it.

The hardest part about residential painting is deciding on a color because the paint is primarily for aesthetics in a residential environment. With industrial painting, deciding on paint colors is one of the easier parts of the job. Paint still provides aesthetic benefits in an industrial setting, but it has to do much more than look good.

Industrial surfaces are subject to high wear and tear. Paint in these settings performs roles like preventing corrosion, fireproofing equipment, and reducing energy consumption. Therefore, the type of paint chosen and the application of the paint are crucial. Moreover, industrial painting can be far more hazardous than residential painting. Industrial painting requires specialty equipment and training to keep everyone safe.

Industrial Painting FAQs

Have questions about industrial painting? You can find answers to some of the most common questions we receive below. Don’t hesitate to contact our team to have an experienced painter answer your questions.

  • What Is Industrial Painting?

Industrial painting is a specialized field of painting that focuses on applying protective coatings and finishes to various surfaces and structures in industrial settings. The primary purpose of industrial painting is to protect surfaces from corrosion, rust, weathering, chemical exposure, and other forms of deterioration, as well as to improve aesthetics in some cases.

  • How Do Industrial Projects Differ From Commercial Projects?

VanDerKolk Painting offers commercial painting services in addition to industrial painting services. Commercial and industrial painting jobs are similar in that they both involve painting places of business. However, the two types of jobs also have sizeable differences.

Industrial facilities require different types of specialty paints and coatings compared to most commercial painting jobs. Industrial paint jobs are also more likely to require sandblasting of steel structures, ceilings, and equipment before painting. Both jobs require skill, but even more experience and attention to detail are required to paint industrial facilities safely and effectively.

  • Can You Match Specific Colors?

We can match colors if you have a sample for us to match. We can also take a sample to match the color if needed as well. It’s important to note that we may not be able to match every color with 100% accuracy, but we can match almost any color very closely.

Companies will sometimes ask us to match corporate brand colors based on hex codes, CMYK, or RGB values. Digital color codes don’t easily translate to paint colors, because digital codes correspond to colors from the visible light spectrum while paint deals with pigments. Digital colors can be closely matched, but the paints won’t be a perfect replica of their digital counterparts.

  • Will We Have To Close Our Facility For Painting?

We plan diligently and closely coordinate with your team to avoid downtime. We use electrostatic spray guns to keep all your machines in place. Our team is also able to work nights, weekends, holidays, and during your plant shutdown times to make sure our painting doesn’t interfere with your production.
